Virat Kohli fastest to 9000 ODI runs: How he fared each year since 2008

first_imgVirat Kohli is in the form of his life. The 28-year-old India captain is leading from the front, his team wins anything it plays and has been dominant across all formats, annihilating opponents in Tests, ODIs and T20 Internationals. On the back of Kohli’s sensational run of form and spirited performances by their young turks, India have won seven successive ODI series since June 2016. In Tests, India have been unbeatable and have lost only two matches in over two years. While last year was all about Test matches, India have been focused entirely on one-day cricket this year with an eye on the World Cup in 2019. In 26 ODIs so far, India have won 19 and lost only six — one match against West Indies was washed out.Kohli, in the true sense, has led India’s dominant campaign, scoring runs and hundreds for fun.In an ode to his fitness and mind-numbing form, Kohli has played all of India’s 26 one-dayers this year and has amassed 1460 runs including six hundreds. Over the last two years, Kohli has scored nine of his 32 hundreds and is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 centuries in the format. No other batsman has scored more hundreds than Kohli since 2013 when he really started to come of age as the world’s most destructive limited-overs batsman. But the legend of Kohli was not built over the last 24 months. He became the fastest to storm into the 9000-run club in ODIs and Rome was not built in a day.9000 ODI runs for the Skipper #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/36SGtHAHZbadvertisement- BCCI (@BCCI) October 29, 2017In his 10th year in international cricket, Kohli is having a great run. On Sunday, in the course of his record hundred against New Zealand, he became the first this year to score 2000 international runs in 2017.Kohli has of course been the bulwark of India’s batting line-up even in the presence of his illustrious predecessors. After debuting in 2008, Kohli showed he belonged to the big stage in 2010, smashing 995 runs and three classy hundreds. For four years from 2011-2014, Kohli breached the 1000-run mark every season.A dismal 2015 ensued but he bounced back in 2016, hammering 739 runs from only 10 matches. And if he does play the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Kohli could push for another hundred or two before the year runs out.His consistency ensured Kohli reclaimed the top spot in the ICC’s ODI rankings where he has now accumulated more points than Sachin Tendulkar did at the peak of his career. The KING reaffirms his dominance – 2nd hundred of the #INDvNZ series. @imVkohli pic.twitter.com/TJZ3cQxXVb- BCCI (@BCCI) October 29, 2017Here is a breakdown of how Kohli fared in each of the last years:2008Runs: 159Hundreds: 02009Runs: 325Hundreds: 12010Runs: 995Hundreds: 32011Runs: 1381Hundreds: 42012Runs: 1026Hundreds: 52013 Runs: 1268Hundreds: 42014Runs: 1054Hundreds: 42015Runs: 623Hundreds: 22016Runs: 739Hundreds: 32017Runs: 1460Hundreds: 6last_img read more
