first_imgHealthLifestyleLocalNews Plan being implemented to prevent diarrhea and cholera outbreak by: – July 15, 2011 Tweet Sharing is caring! 20 Views   no discussions Sharecenter_img Share Share Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David JohnsonThe Ministry of Health says it is putting plans in place to help fight against diarrhea and cholera related diseases on the island.This announcement was made at a Cholera Preparedness workshop which is currently underway in Dominica.Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Johnson said if measures are not put in place immediately, cholera could have a devastating effect on the country.“When one considers that we have experienced three outbreaks due to acute gastroenteritis in the last five years we can well imagine what would be the economic consequences and loss of live that would result if we are no prepared,” he said.Dr Johnson says frontline health care workers are among the first to be affected during an outbreak of Cholera.Meantime National Epidemiologist Dr Paul Ricketts says Cholera is a threat therfore putting plans in place is very essential.According to Ricketts, the new international health regulations require all countries to put plans in place to prevent such diseases.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img read more
